This one came out of nowhere and in my opinion Memphis got stiffed.

ESPN.com reports: The Memphis Grizzlies will send Pau Gasol and a future second-round pick to the Lakers for Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittenton, the unofficially retired Aaron McKie , the draft rights to Pau Gasol's brother Marc and future first-round picks in 2008 and 2010, NBA front-office sources told ESPN.com's Marc Stein.

I don't believe this is the best Memphis could've done for Gasol. I understand this is purely a salary cap dump for Memphis. Kwame Brown's $9 million contract comes off the books after this season. Still, they turned down much better offers from Chicago last summer. They were demanding no less than Luol Deng and Ben Gordon. Yet, they settle for this from a team in their own conference? I'm kind of perplexed.

This gives LA a lineup of:

C. Andrew Bynum (when he gets back)

PF. Pau Gasol

SF. Lamar Odom (I think he's better suited for the PF position, though)

PG. Jordan Farmar

SG. Kobe Bryant

...with a bench of:

F. Vladamir Radmanovic
F. Luke Walton

F. Trevor Ariza
PG. Derek Fisher

SG. Sasha Vujacic

Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom will likely be negatively affected. Odom's rebounds are better when he plays the power forward spot, which he will until Andrew Bynum returns in a month or two. Still, it's hard to imagine Gasol putting up better numbers than he did in Memphis with Kobe Bryant dominating the ball. I expect Gasol to post 14-15 ppg and about 8 rbpg.

Rudy Gay might be the biggest winner of this deal. Watch other Grizzlies players closely to see who steps up with the extra minutes/touches. Possible candidates are Darko Milicic, Hakim Warrick or Mike Miller. I don't expect Kwame Brown to do much. He doesn't have the best basketball hands and he's still recovering from an injury he had earlier. Stromile Swift could benefit from playing with Jason Kidd after being dealt to New Jersey for Jason Collins. Though, his game resembles Sean Williams' a lot.
